The Fruit Strikes Back

Paradise Lost Reconsidered

by Ted Chapin

Show Dates – September 28th through October 21st, 2012
Opening September 28th from 6 to 10 p.m.

“The orange is the Forbidden Fruit in my 2012 collage illustrations of
Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’.

My ‘Paradise Lost’ imagines Satan actively slicing, squeezing, canning
and shipping the Forbidden Fruit to 1950’s America. All the colored
paper in this collage is original 1950‘s labeling for canned orange
juice.

In this piece Satan (from Gustav Doré’s ‘Paradise Lost’) is caught up
in the consequences of his own mischief: the canning process spirals
out of control, the orange becoming a force overwhelming even to Satan
himself.” ~ Ted Chapin
