Artist Spotlight – Debra Claffey

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Debra Claffey is a visual artist who uses encaustic, oil, and mixed media in her work. Raised in Connecticut, schooled in Massachusetts, she now lives and works in New Boston, New Hampshire. She holds a BFA in Painting from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Tufts University and an Associate’s Degree in Horticultural Technology from the University of New Hampshire.

Natura Viva – Flora, Fauna, and Us

“Natura Viva – Flora, Fauna, and Us”, an exhibition of new work by 10 artists using encaustic,
will premiere at Artcurrent Gallery, Provincetown, Mass. June 2013.”

PROVINCETOWN, MA – Ten nationally recognized artists who paint with encaustic (pigmented wax) will have new work in “Natura Viva – Flora, Fauna, and Us”, a botanically themed exhibition at Artcurrent Gallery here. The exhibition, associated with the Seventh International Encaustic Conference, will run from May 30 through June 16, 2013, with an opening reception on Friday, May 31, 2013, from 5 – 8 p.m.

Ocean Solstice – artcurrent Provincetown

Artcurrent presents ‘Ocean Solstice’ installation by Dorothy Palanza, an illuminated perspective of the the human – sea relationship. This installation is an extension both of her featured ‘Post-Millenial Jonah’ exhibit at Williams-McCall Gallery during 2012 Miami Art Basel, and as collaborating artist with the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies. Artcurrent’s two person show, ‘Earth to Sky’ pairing the ceramic works of Judith Motzkin with the abstracted landscape paintings of Dorothy Palanza (courtesy of Schoolhouse Gallery), opened Friday August 31st to a large crowd enjoying the last official weekend of summer in Provincetown. Both artists were present for the opening, sharing insights and perspectives with gallery opening attendees (See slideshow below).
